about the me&thee |
Chris Smither recasts [the real folk blues] in the ethereal language of the poet, projecting a kind of streetwise mysticism. His acoustic fingerpicking is a joy, as is his grainy, live-in voice. And while his original songs are wondrous, his covers are revelatory too.

Chris Smither moved from his native New Orleans to Cambridge, Mass. many years ago, where he found a musical home. He also found an audience who appreciated tunes like his that paid homage to Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt. Bonnie Raitt calls Smither "her Eric Clapton." When she recorded Smither's tune "Love Me Like a Man," it was so well received, it quickly became one of her signature songs. As all these folks discovered, a Chris Smither show is pure bliss if you enjoy soulful blues, wry lyrics and foot-stomping rhythms.
The Washington Post calls Chris Smither "one of the finest interpreters of classic blues and contemporary roots music on the scene today." The Rolling Stone Jazz and Blues Guide declares that Smither has "quietly achieved a quasi-mythic status as an outstanding musician and composer." Smither's latest CD "Live As I'll Ever Be" is his tenth. One music critic noted that his songs are "gleaming bits of gold performed in a variety of styles." That gold will be at the me & thee on March 23.
