We are pleased to announce our Second Annual Open Mike on Friday, January 18. The history of the me&thee coffeehouse is long and storied and hundreds of performers have played on its stage over the course of its 37 years.

In an effort to allow singers, songwriters, poets, and storytellers more exposure and give them an opportunity to display their talents, we are opening our doors for an evening of who-knows-what. Performers will be allowed 10 minutes each.

Joe Jencks, an international touring performer, songwriter, entertainer, and educator, will be the featured performer. The traditions of the likes of Pete Seeger can be found in the stories, causes and protests he tells in his music. Holly Near says, “In these times, we need the singers who will do the homework and tell the stories! Joe Jencks is among the fine next generation singers who are ready to carry on the tradition as well as look into the future” His latest CD, The Candle and the Flame, combines the many facets of Joe’s diverse musical background and weaves them all together into an aural tapestry that is stark and exquisite. Joe’s set begins at 8:30 p.m.

In addition, some special New England singer-songwriters, including one who is a headliner at some big venues, have promised to stop by as well.

For this special show, doors will open at 7:00 pm
and the show will begin at 7:30 pm.

 

 

Joe Jencks is the type of musician that will cause you to drop that morning newspaper or pull your car to the side of the road when you hear his songs. He is the type of artist that will turn heads in his direction when he walks onto a stage. His voice will instantly draw you into his passionate songs. He is the type of musician whose music will become part of you. His craft and artistry will remind you of the best efforts of Phil Ochs, Stan Rogers, and Woody Guthrie.
