Ted Drozdowski, The Boston Phoenix

New England's Bill Morrissey is known for his poignant storytelling style and the literary depth of his original songs. Rolling Stone said that Morrissey has a place in that "noble lineage that reaches back to Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie." Bill will be singing a variety of tunes from his eight-CD catalog when he hits the stage at the me&thee. In his most recent CD, "Songs of Mississippi John Hurt," Morrissey pays tribute to the legendary Delta bluesman, whose blues picking greatly influenced Bill's own guitar playing style and whose gentleness, subtlety and humor also struck a chord.
Bill's recordings have received rave reviews and much critical acclaim, including Grammy Award nominations. His songwriting is of a piece with his other artistic endeavors: In addition to being a fine singer-songwriter, Morrissey is a published author. His first novel, Edson, is a folk song in prose form about the life of a musician in small-town New Hampshire.
