Moock’s strength as a musician lies in his powerful, raspy vocals and his well-crafted lyrics. His songs are at once biting, accessible, and tuneful; often funny, always resonant. His musical style is all over the map, drawing from folk (Give Me Love, Don’t Let Her Strength Make Me Weak), blues (Me and My Friend, I’ve Seen Your Mother Naked In the Tub), country (What if Love Came Too Soon, Walking to the End of the World), rock and even jazz (Dance in the Night). Steeped in tradition, yet distinctly contemporary, Alastair manages to produce a sound and presentation that is both familiar and wholly original. Matthew Smith, FolkWeb Music Director |
It’s been said that Alastair Moock and Pastures of Plenty put on “the hippest hootenannies in town.” In a varying but always creative lineup, Moock and his singer-songwriter friends jam together on traditional American music. The result is soulful and fun and extraordinarily energizing. Moock has been making music in the Boston area since 1995 and has played to sold-out crowds on all the main stages in the region.
