We are very happy to bring back the man Dirty Linen magazine calls “one of contemporary folk music’s most influential voices.” Ellis Paul has been described as the “quintessential Boston songwriter: literate, provocative, and urbanely romantic.” With ten Boston Music Awards under his belt, this local acoustic star is beginning to rise on the national scene. His latest album, a two-CD set called “Live,” captures a session with friends Patty Griffin, Vance Gilbert and Chris Trapper of the Push Stars. Paul’s charisma shines through, bringing to life his original, poignant, bittersweet songs.
Paul’s previous album, “Translucent Soul,” garnered critical praise from coast to coast and was named “Outstanding Contemporary Folk Album” at the Boston Music Awards. The ballads on this CD are honest and introspective, touching on emotions that are part and parcel of each of us. In many ways, Paul’s lyrics are simply poems set to music; their intimacy is compelling and not easily forgotten.
Perhaps he first came to your notice when his song “The World Ain’t Slowin’ Down” was featured in the Jim Carrey film “Me, Myself and Irene.” For new fans or old, Ellis Paul’s performances at the me&thee are always special evenings.
