From Boston/ Airport

Marblehead is 17 miles north of Boston.

From the Callahan Tunnel in downtown Boston or from Logan Airport, take route 1A 9.5 miles to Lynn.

Then follow Route 129 along the coast through Swampscott to Marblehead. Route 129 becomes Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead.

Continue on Atlantic Avenue around a left curve to a five-way intersection.

Go right on Washington Street past red brick Abbot Hall on the right at the crest of the hill, continuing down the hill and then curving to the left, continuing to the Old Town House (a yellow frame building offset from the sidewalk).

Go around the Old Town House three-quarters of the way to Mugford Street, and turn right up Mugford.

The Unitarian Universalist church is one block up Mugford Street on the left.

From the West (Route 128/Salem)

Get off Route 128 at the Route 114 East/Marblehead exit.

Stay on Route 114 through its many turns, past Salem State College, into Marblehead. Route 114 in Marblehead is called Lafayette Street.

Soon after entering Marblehead, there is a fork. Stay on Lafayette Street, which veers sharply to the left.

Go straight through the next few lights. Lafayette Street becomes Pleasant Street.

Go a couple of miles on Pleasant, past the little shopping mall on the left and later the Information Booth in a small park on the right.

Keep going straight up the hill until Pleasant ends on Washington at a stop sign.

Turn left and go one block to the Old Town House (a yellow frame building offset from the sidewalk).

Go around the Old Town House three-quarters of the way to Mugford Street, and turn right up Mugford.

The Unitarian Universalist church is one block up Mugford Street on the left.

By MBTA Bus

Take T Bus #441 or 442-Marblehead from Wonderland station at the end of the Blue line. Get off at Town House Square (Elm St. at Mugford St.) and walk half a block up Mugford Street. The Unitarian Church is on the left.

Parking

Try to find on-street parking on Washington, Mugford, Elm, Green, or Pond Streets.

Driving up Mugford from Washington, Elm is the first right after the church, Pond is the second right.

The Gerry School parking lot on Elm Street has been re-opened for the fall and winter season. There are 25 spaces at the lot which is a 3 minute walk from the me&thee. Additional on-street parking is available on Elm, Pond, Cowell or Green Streets.

There are 50 lit, marked spots at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School (MCCPS) at 17 Lime Street, first left off Pond Street, with a flat, lit walk to the coffeehouse.

Please be careful not to park in no parking zones, especially on Mugford Street, or you may receive a ticket or be towed.

Driving and Parking Tips

It is wise to avoid driving Route 114 through Salem to get to Marblehead, especially during the month of October. For those of you who are unaware, Salem hosts a month long “Haunted Happenings” extravaganza and spooky fiends and fans from all over descend upon the area during the entire month of October. If you plan to attend a show at the me&thee during October, we advise you to take an alternative route if you usually come into town via Route 95/128.

Think about taking the exit for Route 129 and head toward Swampscott and Lynn instead. Follow 129, which goes right along the coast through Swampscott. Continue going straight on Humphrey Street which then turns into Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead. Once you hit “downtown Marblehead,” you’ll see a CVS on your left and a shop called “Shubie’s” straight in front of you. Take the right onto Washington Street. Go to the end and turn left. You will see the yellow Town House in front of you. Bear left around that building and turn onto Mugford Street.

PARKING & WALKING SUGGESTIONS

There are over 300 parking spaces on-street and off-street within a 5 to10 minute walk of the coffeehouse. Even though Marblehead’s crooked and narrow streets were established for cows, horses and salted fish carriages in the 17th century, you can easily find your way around the neighborhood.

Because of a changed town policy, parking is not available until November 1 at the Gerry School parking lot on Elm Street. However, try on-street parking on Elm, Pond, Cowell or Green Streets.

• There are 18 lit, marked spots available at the upper Gerry School off Mechanic Street, first left onto Mechanic Square.

• There are 50 lit, marked spots at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School (MCCPS) at 17 Lime Street, first left off Pond Street, with a flat, lit walk to the coffeehouse.

Please be careful not to park in no parking zones, especially on Mugford Street, or you may receive a ticket or be towed.

Thank you for your understanding. The me&thee is located in the midst of the town’s historic district surrounded by homes that date back to the early 1700s. Enjoy a walk before or after the show. Our beautiful harbor is a 10 minute walk away down Mugford Street, around the Old Town Hall and down State Street, to the Town Landing, where our fishermen and lobstermen still ply their trade. If you listen closely, you may still hear the sea chanteys sung aboard those vessels for centuries!
