Bill Morrissey, October 4
Bill Morrissey
Leaving the obvious to amateurs, Morrissey spins marvelously evocative tales from most humble elements. When his fertile literary imagination meets his soulful voice and sparse, supple instrumentation, he effortlessly achieves what so few songwriters can: to take the profound and make it profoundly musical.   CONCERTEDEFFORTS.COM

B ILL MORRISSEY’s latest CD, “Something I Saw or Thought I Saw,” inspired by a line from a Robert Frost poem, has been hailed by the Boston Herald as a “rare American feat: a true artistic reawakening in middle age.” This musical effort is Morrissey’s first collection of original material in over five years. Morrissey notes that the CD’s title is a “reflection of our limitations.” The songs are about relationships that are dissolving. Sparse production coupled with clean, crisp lyrics make for a powerful presentation. Morrissey’s greatest talent as a songwriter is his ability to capture strong emotion in a smart, economical, musical fashion. His gravely voices packs a punch and makes you hear every word.

In his Grammy-nominated CD, “Songs of Mississippi John Hurt,” Morrissey pays tribute to the legendary bluesman. Bill’s guitar style was influenced greatly by Hurt’s Delta blues picking. Morrissey first discovered Hurt’s music as a teenager. He found the music to be elegantly melodic, funny, subtle and gentle. It was only natural for Bill to record an album of interpretations of Hurt’s most memorable songs.

Morrissey’s own songs have a unique bluesy flavor. Rolling Stone declares that Morrissey has a place in that “noble lineage that reaches back to Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie.” Morrissey will be singing a variety of tunes from his eight-CD catalog when he hits the stage at the Me&Thee. All of Morrissey’s recordings have received rave reviews and critical acclaim, including Grammy Award nominations. In addition to being a fine singer-songwriter, Morrissey is a published author. His first novel, Edson, is a folk song in prose form—about the life of a musician in small-town New Hampshire.
